Protection International has been involved since 1998 in the research and development of new tactics and tools for the protection of human rights defenders. Protection International has made significant contributions to the recognition of human rights defenders as actors of positive social change over the years.

1998 – 2001: Promoting the UN Declaration on Human Rights Defenders
