The first pilot Protection Desk opens in Nepal in 2006: The Protection Desk collaborates with several NGOs in conflict regions, provides support to ethnic minorities, victims and community committees, based on a mid-term strategy.

PI organizes a Seminar at the headquarters of  MONUC in Kinshasa with HRDs from all corners of the Democratic Republic of Congo, the African Commission’s Special Rapporteur Reine Alapini, the Dean of the Congolese Bar, and the Human Rights Representative of EU’s Foreign Policy Chief.  The seminar was the stepping-stone towards the ‘action plan’ for the implementation of the EU Guidelines on HRDs in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

PI develops initiates the parliamentary network and a new resolution (“propuesta no de ley”) on protection of defenders is adopted by the Spanish Congress in 2007.
