Gitahi Githuku

Gitahi Githuku is a human rights defender who has worked with various national and regional human rights and dignity over years. His work has involved grants making especially amongst grassroots and social movements, network & movement building and working with human rights defenders. He has engaged with human rights tools and mechanisms including universal periodic review, treaty bodies and special mechanisms, EU working group on the situation of human rights defenders, Africa commission for Human and People’s Rights, media security and regional protection mechanisms for human rights defenders. He has expertise on issues which include; access to justice, good governance, security and protection of HRDs, litigation, advocacy, ,protection of minorities, networking, SOGIE Rights, monitoring, documenting and reporting on human rights abuses and violations. Since 2014, he has been working with American Jewish World Service base in Nairobi as their Programme Officer for Kenya. Currently, he works on natural resource rights and sexual health rights programmes.  Prior to joining AJWS, he worked with Protection International from 2009- 2014.
