In June 2009, a coup took place in Honduras. According to the Truth Commission,
which investigated over the past three years,
both the regime of Roberto Micheletti
and the current administration of Porfirio Lobo
have used and still use terror
as a means of social control. Hundreds
of human rights defenders
were killed
or physically attacked
during the coup. To counter
this policy of terror,
supporters of human rights defenders seek
protection strategies.
