Protection International uses video to convince States to fulfil their obligations to protect Human Rights Defenders since 2004. Our camera is a key tool that conveys our message about the need for Defenders’ protection, recognition and  promotion of their rights.

Protection International meets Defenders, films their activities and amplifies their voices. Our clips and documentaries contribute to bring changes in policies, laws or practices relating to protection issues.

Our video centre is divided into 4 sections:

The Defenders’ Voice: Short interviews with Defenders about their working conditions, the political context in which they speak out and their views on how to improve their protection.

Acting4Defenders: Interviews  those who make a difference such as diplomats, United Nations’ officers, members of parliament and others.

Documentaries: In-depth video reports on protection issues.

Video News: Short clips & longer video reports on topics around Human Rights Defenders and emblematic cases such as the assassination of Pascal Kabungulu in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Protection International’s latest documentary ‘Justice for Ernest Manirumva’, has proved to be an important tool in the campaign against the impunity of those who decided to kill this courageous Burundian activist. The documentary has been screened on Burundian TV channels, at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva and at a session of the African Commission on Human- and People’s Rights.

Video material is available with subtitles in English, French and Spanish and is accessible on YouTube and Vimeo. Documentaries are also available on DVD.
