The Protection Desk in Colombia (PDCol) is the fruit of an alliance between Protection International and Pensamiento y Acción Social (PAS) that started in 2007. PDCol responds to local needs and formulates its objectives in consultation with the organisations, movements and communities that it supports. PDCol builds capacity of human rights organisations and individual defenders to assess risk and create security plans. A special protection approach was developed for remote, isolated communities that seek to protect their territory from parties involved in the armed conflict. It offers guidance and assistance in developing tailored protective measures. PDCol captures Colombian protection experience and makes it available for defenders elsewhere in the world, identifying success stories and innovative protection strategies. PDCol has actively contributed to initiatives such as the “For the Right to Defend Human Rights in Colombia” campaign.
