Duration and type of contract:  Open-ended consultancy agreement based on PI’s Senior Adviser Procedure document

 

Main duties and responsibilities:

As an expert in the field of W/HRD protection, the key purpose of the Senior Adviser consultancy is to undertake tasks assigned by the Head of PRTU on the following areas:                                                                        

  • Develop projects of policy analysis and research on, and capacity-building and training support assignments for, the protection of W/HRDs at risk, in Portuguese and Spanish speaking countries in Latin America (and possibly Africa).
  • Prepare, deliver and report on consultancy services assigned by PI, in coordination with the Service Development Officer and the Head of PRTU.
  • When appropriate, facilitate internal training for PI staff and provide support in the revision of security plans to PI field offices.
  • Deliver the E-learning course of PI as a tutor for Portuguese and/or Spanish speaking audiences.
  • Undertake exploration of policy issues and other topics relevant for the mission and work of PI in close coordination with the Head of PRTU.

 

Skills & experience:

  • Previous work experience: at least 5 or more years and proven track record and comprehensive experience on protection and security management for CSOs and W/HRDs that includes aspects of physical protection, wellbeing and digital security.
  • Solid understanding of organisational dynamics, profound knowledge on capacity building approaches and W/HRDs’ needs with a proven track record delivering capacity-development sessions to diverse audiences using adult learning and popular education pedagogical principles and tools. Candidate's knowledge of PI methodologies is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrable capacity to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing to a wide range of – expert and non-expert – audiences.
  • A relevant degree – preferably a Masters’ degree – in Social Sciences (political science, sociology, international relations, anthropology), educational sciences and similar fields. A demonstrable focus on human rights is desirable.
  • Knowledge and some experience in social/anthropological research (qualitative methodologies) is desirable.
  • Enthusiastic, self-starter who is able to work autonomously and in small, decentralised teams, and think outside the box.
  • Availability to travel frequently to different countries in Latin America (and possibly Africa) is required.
  • Fluency in Spanish and Portuguese (written and oral) is essential. Capacity to work and communicate (orally and in written) in English and/or French are an asset.
