Protection International draws your attention to this important Exchange of views on EU policies on human rights defenders, including the presentation of a study on Assessing the Implementation of the EU Guidelines on Human Rights Defenders.

This event will happen in the European Parliament on Tuesday, 28 May 2013 10h00 – 11h30, and will be web-streamed

After some Introductory remarks by Ms Barbara Lochbihler, Chair of the Subcommittee on Human Rights, the following speakers will be given the floor:

1. Ms Karen BENNETT, Senior Research Fellow, Human Rights and Social Justice Research Institute (HRSJ) presenting the study on the  implementation of EU guidelines on Human Rights defenders

2. Mr Patrice LENORMAND, European Commission, DG DEVCO on the role of the EIDHR and an EU mechanism for human rights defenders

3. Mr. Radboud REIJN, Programme officer, Justitia et Pax on the shelter program for human rights defenders in The Hague

4. Mr Vincent FOREST, Head of Front Line’s EU Office in Brussels on the EU response to the challenges faced by human rights defenders at risk
