PI in Honduras

In January 2013, PI provided expert technical advice to the Inter-American Court of Human Rights on the “Carlos Antonio Luna López vs. Honduras” case sent to the Court by CEJIL.

In its October 2013 ruling, the Court adopted PI’s conclusions on the baseline standards necessary to establish a comprehensive public policy for the protection of HRDs in the country.

PI in Guatemala

In January 2014, PI provided new expert technical advice to the Inter-American Court on the “Human Rights Defender and Others vs. Guatemala” case sent to the court by UDEFEGUA. The expert opinion addressed the Court’s question concerning the adequacy of Guatemala’s existing mechanisms to protect HRDs. In its 28 August 2014 ruling, the IACtHR requires the Guatemalan state to adopt and implement a public policy for the protection of HRDs along the same baseline standards recommended by PI.
