06/08/2018 – Protection International and hundreds of civil society organizations support the #Sign4TheEnvironment campaign and call on governments in Latin America and the Caribbean to join The Regional Agreement on Access to Information, Public Participation, and Access to Justice on Environmental Matters (the Escazú Agreement), the most important treaty in the last 20 years on human rights and environmental protection in the region.
The Escazú Agreement aims to reinforce the obligation of the states to protect individuals and collectives who defend human and environmental rights, as well as to guarantee their participation in decision-making related to the environment.
On 27 September, the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean will have the historic opportunity to be at the forefront of sustainable development with equality, ratifying the Escazú Agreement at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, strengthening their commitment to a more prosperous, inclusive, and egalitarian region.
