2023 Annual Report

Protection International (PI) is happy to publish its 2023 Annual Report! It provides highlights of the work we did in 2023 to fortify the right to defend human rights across the globe, and stand with human rights defenders (HRDs). 

We are proud of the work achieved, which includes supporting hundreds of HRDs, communities and civil society organisations, establishing new partnerships, and expanding our operations in Africa and Mesoamerica, to name a few.

As you read this report, you will learn about the concrete work that PI has carried out in 2023 and its impact on the ground. This work includes:

• Our efforts to deconstruct damaging narratives around HRDs in West Africa and amplify positive ones;
• Our work monitoring and countering disinformation targeting social leaders and HRDs in Colombia, together with Verdad Abierta;

• Our contribution to the Declaration+25, which is an authoritative, civil society-led document that supplements the UN Declaration on HRDs;
